Regretting that despite promise not to hike tariff, the Mamata Banerjee government failed to keep its words and was proceeding on the lines of the fomer Left Front government, All Bengal Electricity Consumers' Association President Sanjit Biswas told reporters here.

Stating that he had submitted a memorandum to Power Minister Manish Gupta urging him to reduce the tariff, he said "Continuous hike in power tariff should be checked to give relief to the people where the tariff is highest among all states."

Stating that he had met the coal minister to confirm if the increase in coal price was the reason behind power tariff hike in the state, he said, "I came to know that the reason was not that genuine." PTI AKB
