"All miners are safe and they have been moved to well ventilated areas inside the underground mines. Rescue operations are on," General Manager, Technical, Eastern Coalfields (ECL), Niladri Roy told PTI.

"We are trying to rescue them. There is no threat to their lives. We have provided them with adequate food and water," he added.

Two hundred miners are inside one underground mine in Sodepur and two in Satgram in Burdwan district since 1 PM as electrical lifts have stopped functioning due to power failure, he said

Miners in all other mines barring these three had come out after the power failure, Roy added.

Meanwhile, sources said miners had gone into the mines in the first shift and were struck there since the grid collapsed.
