Power crisis in JK's Vijaypur belt, locals stage protests

Shops and business establishments were shut and vehicular traffic was disrupted in Vijaypur belt in Jammu region's Sambha district today as locals staged protests demanding adequate power supply.

Raising anti-government slogans, nearly 1500 people, including women, staged a demonnstration in Vijaypur to protest what they said acute power shortage in the border town.

They also staged a sit-in on the Jammu-Pathankot highway near the town blocking road traffic, officials said.

They lifted the sit-in after the authorities promised adequate power supply.

All shops and business establishment were shut in the town in response to a call by traders to protest the power shortage.
 

The protesters said they were getting electric supply only for six to seven hours a day.
