"In a two-month special campaign, BYPL reached out to 140 schools in its operational area of East and Central Delhi to impart message on safety and energy conservation," the power discom stated in a release here today.
More schools will be covered under the awareness programme in the near future, it said.
"The programme is devised to sensitise young impressionable minds about safety, power shortage and its reasons and power theft and the immediate need of energy conservation," it said.
"It also covers topics of international concern, like global warming, rising CO2 emissions and generation of electricity through renewable resources," the release said.
The power discom informed the school children that Delhi's per capita power consumption was at 1,652 units, which is more than double of the national average.

Children were also educated on how their simple everyday measures will collectively go a long way in alleviating many of these concerns and getting a grip on the ever increasing incidence of pollution.
During the programme two short films - Zaheera ka Sapna based on safety matters and Khurana Gharana, which emphasises on energy conservation - were screened to convey the importance of safety.
"We are confident children with young receptive minds can take up cudgels for energy conservation. Educating and sensitising one child means influencing not only one person, but also his family and friends," CEO BYPL Ramesh Narayanan said.
