Power discom official arrested for taking bribe

The Anti Corruption Branch of Delhi Government has arrested a meter reader of a power discom for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

The accused, Amit Yadav, who was posted as Field Associate/Meter Reader in BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant, according to Additional Commissioner of Police, Anti Corruption Branch of NCT of Delhi, V Renganathan.

"The accused was threatening the complainant to implicate him in a case of electricity theft. He had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 for settling the issue and had already taken Rs 20,000 on previous occasion," Renganathan said.
 

When a further demand of Rs 30,000 was made by Yadav, the complainant approached the Anti Corruption Branch. A trap was laid and the accused was arrested red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant, he said.

A case in this connection was registered on April 11 and further investigation is in progress.
