Members of electricity department inspection team were today allegedly assaulted by the locals here and forced to flee after a scuffle broke out between them over fake power connections in the area.

A team lead by the SDO (East) Amolak Singh arrived in Rupo Majra village near Ambala city following complains that some of the villagers were using electricity without officially having a power connection, police said.

Argument broke out between the officals and female members of a residence while the team was on inspection. The women alleged the officials misbehaved with them, they said.

But a leader of Union of power employees refuted the allegations.

Meanwhile, the Sarpanch of the village Baljeet Singh and other villagers reached the spot. A large number of women accompanied by a Congress leader Naib Saini came on the streets and started protesting against the action by the team.

They demanded registration of case against them.

The team left the area, leaving their official vehicle behind, local villagers claimed.

A representative of union of the power employees said three members of the team including SDO Singh, sustained injuries in the incident and were admitted in the civil hospital.

On the other hand the Union of the power employees said the inspection team was on official duty when the villagers allegedly attacked them.

A case against some of the villagers was registered in Sadar police station this evening. No arrest was made in this regard so far, police said.
