Several areas in the national capital today continued to face long outages as the transmission network damaged by a powerful storm was yet to be restored.
There has been load-shedding ranging from one to four hours in several areas of East and West Delhi while many areas in South Delhi also faced intermittent power cuts.
Congress workers staged protest outside Delhi BJP office as well as Ghonda Chowk in northeast Delhi, demanding immediate steps by the party-ruled government at the Centre to improve the situation.
"It is the responsibility of the NDA government at the Centre to ensure power supply in Delhi as the city is under President's rule," Mukesh Sharma, Chief Spokesperson of Delhi Congress said.
The city has been facing long power cuts since May 30 when the storm damaged a number of major power transmission lines.
Power department officials said the situation was much better compared to last few days as power demand came down significantly due to drop in temperature following rains.
To deal with the situation, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung on Sunday had asked discoms to snap power supply to shopping malls after 10 PM and switch off street lights during peak hours.
He had also asked citizens to come forward and help conserve energy by running their air-conditioners at 25 degrees centigrade or above and take all measures at home and offices to save electricity.
Power department officials said it will take at least 10 days to restore the transmission network and normalise the supply.
Giving details of repair of the damaged transmission lines, the officials said the Shalimar Bagh-Wazirpur 220 KV line will be ready by June 16.
They said though the Bawana-Rohini 220 KV line has been restored through Emergency Restoration System (ERS) it will take some more time to repair the damaged towers.
Similarly, work on permanent restoration of the Bamnauli- Pappan Kalan 220 KV Line has started though it was made functional through ERS.
Works are underway for restoration of the Dadri-Loni-Harsh Vihar Line (400 KV), Mandola-Gopalpur 220 KV Line, the Maharani Bagh-Ghazipur 220 KV line, Badarpur- Ghazipur line and Maharani Bagh-Trauma Center Line.
