Representatives of the powerloom industry will soon meet the Prime Minister seeking more concessions for the sector and re-introduction of duty drawback, an industry body said.
"Power loom sector is facing lot of problems and so we need some relief. On this, a team of PDEXCIL office bearers will represent the PM soon," the newly-elected Chairman of Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL), M Duraisamy, told reporters here today.
"We are not against the handloom sector, but some changes are needed in the Reservation Act," he said.

Already 22 cloth items had been reserved for handloom and on the representation of the powerloom industry, the then Union Government had relaxed 11 items.
He said 60 per cent of the cloth needs of the country are fulfilled by power looms and of the total textile exports every year, the power loom's share is two per cent. Should it be improved, the industry needs the support of the Central government.
Duraisamy wanted re-introduction of duty drawback so that more units will involve in export of the textiles to other countries.
