The People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) today demanded that the state and central governments pay compensations at the earliest to the villagers whose lands have been allegedly occupied by defence forces in West Kameng and Tawang districts in the state.

"Since the occupied lands are mainly agricultural, horticultural and pastoral fields, it is therefore extremely unfair to delay payment of compensation to the deprived," the party said in a release.

The land belonged to the Bugun, Monpa and Sherdukpen communities, it said.

The party also blamed former BJP MP Khiren Rijiju for "keeping mum on the issue" during his tenure as MP from 2004-2009.
