Advocates, who are appointed as Public Prosecutors(PP) to conduct the cases of the state government, henceforth cannot appear in contempt proceedings for or on behalf of any government employee facing contempt charges.

This was ordered by the Orissa High Court yesterday while disposing of a contempt proceeding against a government employee who deliberately and wilfully did not comply with an earlier order of the High Court.

While passing the order, Justice B R Sarangi observed that that the state exchequer cannot be burdened for the errant act of a government employee who has scant regard for the orders passed by the High Court.

This order was passed in response to a contempt proceeding against the Cuttack Sadar sub-registrar who had deliberately ignored an order passed by this court in October this year. The High Court had allowed registration of any document or immovable property even without production of record of rights (RoR).
