Maharashtra-based milk products maker Prabhat Dairy today said it is looking to set up two new manufacturing units, including one in Assam, as it aims to increase sales by 40 per cent by 2020.

"We are talking to the government here to have a local manufacturing unit. We are also talking to some private players to outsource the production for Northeast," Prabhat Dairy Chief Marketing Officer and Business Head Nidhi Nirmal told PTI here.

The talks are in the initial stages, she added.

"We are also talking to a few people for setting up a plant in North India. These new plants will depend on the volume of market and the top management will take the final decisions," Nirmal said.

The company currently has two plants in Maharashtra with a daily capacity to process 10 lakh litres of milk and produce 30 tonnes of cheese.

"Our target is to have a turnover of Rs 2,000 crore by 2020 from Rs 1,400 crore in last fiscal. We have been a very strong player in B2B category. Going forward, we have decided to focus more on consumer segment by launching many products," Nirmal said.

As part of this strategy, Prabhat Dairy today introduced three variants of its tetra pack milk in Assam with plans to roll out more products in future.

"Northeast India is one of our primary target markets for our national expansion as it is one of the fastest growing in India, especially in tetra pack segment.

"Our core focus would be to build strong consumer connect as we are looking to launch more products in the region soon," Nirmal said.

The market for UHT (ultra-heat treatment) milk is growing fast and so is the demand for tetra packs, which is emerging as a preferred option of milk consumption in the Northeastern states, she added.

"We are targeting to capture 10 per cent of the tetra pack market of Northeast within next 2-3 years. The market size is estimated at Rs 50-60 lakh monthly," Nirmal said.
