The Prague neighbourhood where a safe explosion killed the Palestinian ambassador is seeking to oust the new Palestinian embassy complex from its territory.

Petr Hejl, the mayor of Suchdol neighbourhood, says he is sending that request today to the Czech Republic's Foreign Ministry. Hejl says he is making the move after protests from locals about security concerns, adding that "we have lost trust in the diplomats."

Ambassador Jamal al-Jamal, 56, died on Wednesday of massive injuries when an embassy safe exploded. His death is being investigated as a case of negligence and possession of illegal armaments.

Yesterday, Czech police found unspecified illegal weapons in the new complex that includes the embassy and the ambassador's residence.

The Foreign Ministry says it has demanded an explanation from the Palestinians.
