A state-level function was organised by the Haryana government here on Saturday as part of three-day nationwide 'Prakram Parv' to mark the second anniversary of the 2016 'surgical strikes'.

At the event, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar lauded the role of soldiers in safeguarding the frontiers of the country "so that we can live peacefully".

Describing Haryana as the land of the brave, he said the state covers 1.3 per cent of the total geographical area of the country "but 10 to 11 per cent of the soldiers in the Army belong to Haryana, which is a matter of pride".

"Our youth join the Army to serve, and sacrifice their lives for the sake of nation," Khattar said.

The chief minister said, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the morale of Indian Army is constantly increasing."

Earlier, Khattar inaugurated "Prakram Parv" exhibition organised by the Army, at Government Post Graduate Nehru College, Jhajjar. Many weapons used during military operations were put on display.

On September 29, 2016, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on seven terrorist launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as a response to an attack on its base in Uri earlier that month.

The Army had said its special forces inflicted "significant casualties" on terrorists waiting there to cross into Indian territory.
