President Pranab Mukherjee today extended his birthday greetings to DMK President M Karunanidhi who recently turned 90.
"In your career spanning over five decades, you have served the nation as an outstanding statesman, inspiring leader and a tireless crusader for the upliftment of the downtrodden", Mukherjee said in a letter to Karunanidhi.
The President said Karunanidhi's leadership "for bringing major socio-economic changes in Tamil Nadu and carrying forward the Dravidian movement are a part of the glorious history of the state."
"On this happy occasion, I pray to the Almighty that many more years to be added to your illustrious life in the service of Nation and its people", Mukherjee said.
Defence Minister A K Antony also extended his greetings to the DMK patriarch.
Karunanidhi's active public life and statesmanship is a source of inspiration for the people of Tamil Nadu and the Nation, he said in his greetings.
"I hope that the years ahead will usher in happiness and peace for you and your near and dear ones. May good health be yours in the years to come", Antony said.
Karunanidhi turned 90 on June 3.
