"I had the privilege to interact with Hanumanthaiah on few occasions after late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi advised me to seek his advice. Whenever I came out after interacting with Hanumanthaiah my mind was clear," he said at a function to mark 104th birth anniversary of Hanumanthaiah here.

Mukherjee said Hanumanthaiah assumed chief minister's post when stalwarts like Govind Ballabh Pant, Krishna Sinha and Bidhan Chandra Roy took charge as chief ministers in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal respectively.

Hanumanthaiah was a great statesman who never longed for any position, he said.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said a request would be to the Centre to introduce a postal stamp on Hanumanthaiah.

Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily and Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa were also present.

Hanumanthaiah was chief minister of old Mysore state from March 30, 1952 to August 19, 1956. He is best remembered for his vision and contribution to the construction of Vidhana Soudha, the seat of Karnataka Legislature.
