Pranay, Karl bag India's first medal in Karate

In a first for the country, Indian karate players Pranay Sharma and Karl Vatcha have bagged bronze medal each in the WKF Youth Cup and Karate1 World Championship in Corfu, Greece.

Sharma (50Kg) won the medal in Sub Junior category of Kumite event while Vatcha claimed podium finish in the Sub Junior of Kata, All India Karate-Do Federation (AIKF) said in a release.

Eight-member Indian Karate team is currently participating in the championships being held from July 1-7.

Meanwhile, AIKF general secretary Shihan Bharat Sharma has become India's first WKF certified Kumite coach by clearing the WKF exam held during the event.
 

MKA general secretary Shihan Viraf Vatcha too cleared the Kumite exam while Aniket Gupta became a WKF accredited coach, it added.
