The Punjabi diaspora in America today termed the recently held Pravasi Punjabi Sammelan a "non-event" and said such programmes would not solve their problems which need to be looked into by the government.
The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) said the Pravasi programme held last week and similar ones would not solve the issues faced by non-resident Punjabis (NRPs) unless the state government pays attention to them.
"This programme was basically organised for those people whose hospitality the ministers of Punjab Government were enjoying in America, Canada and other European countries," NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal told PTI.

He said people who wanted to draw attention to the "real issues" including the problems faced by them in purchasing or selling land were not provided an opportunity to speak during the two-day event.
"None of the people out of this coterie was allowed to speak at the event," he alleged.
Chahal further said that the NRPs were disappointed with the event.
He, however, praised the work being done by the NRI branch of Punjab Police.
