Praveen Kumar appointed Chief Electoral Officer for TN polls

The Election Commission has appointed Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, K Praveen Kumar as the observer for the Biennial elections scheduled to be held later this month.

"Election Commission of India has appointed the Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu as the Observer for the Biennial Elections to the Council of States to be held on June 27", an official release here said.

The Commission has directed the process of scrutiny of nomination paper to be watched by the Chief Electoral Officer, during poll and counting of votes, it said.

He shall remain present throughout the process to oversee that the procedures laid down as per law are being followed, it said, adding after completion of the poll, a report shall be furnished to the Commission by him.
 

The elections were necessitated as the term of A Elavarasan, V Maitreyan (both AIADMK), Kanimozhi, Tiruchi N Siva (both DMK), B S Gnanadesikan (Cong), and D Raja (CPI) expire by July 27.
