Special prayers in churches and processions marked observance of Palm Sunday in Tamil Nadu, the final Sunday of lent and beginning of the holy week for Christians.

Special prayers were held predominantly in Catholic churches across Tamil Nadu. Palm Sunday also commemorates the arrival of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem before he was crucified.

Holding high palm fronds, devotees took out processions singing devotional hymns like the 'Hosanna' in cities and towns including Chennai, Tuticorin, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, and Nagercoil.

Meanwhile, a Nagapattinam report said a large number of devotees from various parts of the country thronged at the famous Shrine Basillica in Vailankanni and participated in the palm Sunday procession.
