A local court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of sitting NCP corporator Shivajirao Chumbhale's son Ajinkya in a case of rape and illegal abortion.

Judge U M Nandeshwar, in his order delivered yesterday, granted five days time to Ajinkya to appeal in the high court.

According to district public prosecutor Ajay Misar, Ajinkya had raped the victim on several occasions between March 2013 and April 2016 by taking her to different hotels in Nashik and Mumbai promising to marry her.

He also made her undergo an illegal abortion at a private hospital in Nashik, Misar further told the court, adding that a case was lodged under relevant IPC sections against Ajinkya on November 17.

Dr Umesh Marathe, who executed the abortion and arrested on November 20in connection with the crime, was remanded in judicial custody yesterday after the end of his three days police custody.

The victim also deposed before the court through in-camera hearing.

Victim's lawyer Jaideep Vaishyampayan told the court that the woman and her daughter have been receiving threats from the accused.

Advocate M Y Kale, on behalf of the accused, told the court that it was consensual sex and the abortion was also done with the woman's permission.
