Justice C T Selvam granted bail to Laila (40) without any condition.
Petitioner Laila alleged that police had registered cases against her under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act on December 16, 2012. At the time she was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and needed help for even domestic work.
As such the charge levelled against her was far-fetched, she had claimed.
However, she was remanded to judicial custody and lodged in prison at Tiruchirapalli. On December 22, she developed labour pain and was admitted to a hospital, where doctors said she would have to undergo a caesarian, she said.
Laila said her plea before the Principal district court (Special court for NDPS) for grant of bail on the ground that the condition at the government hospital at Tiruchirapalli was not conducive for the operation was rejected.
She then filed a petition in the high court for bail.
