A 27-year-old pregnant woman here has tested positive for the H1N1 virus and is critical, health officials said.

The woman, from Gajuwaka area, was admitted to a hospital with fever and body pain on January 17.

Various tests were conducted on her and her blood samples were sent to a Mumbai-based laboratory. The hospital received reports yesterday showing that she suffered from swine flu, district nodal officer for swine flu LBHS Devi told PTI here today.

The woman is undergoing treatment at an isolated ward in the private hospital.

Devi said as soon as the authorities received her reports, they conducted door-to-door surveillance in Gajuwaka and Muralinagar area (where she went to her parent's place) and gave medication to all the family members as a preventive measure.

This was the first case of swine flu this year, she said, adding that last year three patients had tested positive for the virus and all survived after being given proper treatment.

There were no cases of swine flu in 2010 and 2011, Devi added.
