President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the death of Khekiho Zhimomi, the Rajya Sabha member from Nagaland who passed away here today.
Conveying his condolences to the MP's wife, Khezheli Zhimomi, the President described him as an eminent leader and social worker whose long years in public service will be remembered for years to come.
Zhimomi served the nation "with distinction in various capacities, including as Member of Legislative Assembly and minister in the state government.

"He dedicated his life for the welfare and development of the people and state of Nagaland.
"In his death, the nation has lost an eminent leader and social worker whose long years in public service will be remembered for years to come," Mukherjee said.
"Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to the rest of your family members. I pray to the almighty to give you and other members of the family strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss," Mukherjee said in his letter.
Vice President Hamid Ansari, who is the Chairman of the Upper House of which Zhimomi was a member, visited AIIMS and paid his last respects to the departed leader. He was accompanied by Rajya Sabha deputy chairman PJ Kurien.
Also, Union Minister Naidu had carried a wreath on behalf of the Prime Minister to AIIMS.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha observed two-minutes' silence as a mark of respect to Zhimomi following which the House was adjourned for the rest of the day.
The 69-year-old leader died at AIIMS here this morning following a stroke.
