President Pranab Mukherjee today greeted citizens on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and hoped the festival will instill a sense of unity among all faiths and pride in the composite culture of country.

Eid-ul Fitr marks the culmination of the period of fasting and prayer during the holy month of Ramzan and "infuses in us a sense of brotherhood and spirit of joy", he said.

"This festival with its spirit of giving and sharing inspires all to work towards building a harmonious, peaceful and prosperous society. Let us re-dedicate ourselves on this day to the service of humanity and to elevate the life of poor and the needy," the President said in his message.

"May Eid-ul Fitr instill in all of us a sense of the essential unity of all faiths and pride in the composite culture of India", Mukherjee said.
