Launching the first of its kind initiative, President's Secretary Omita Paul said it would help the young boys and girls in obtaining tennis coaching from experts and honing their playing skills.

She said this was being undertaken at the behest of President Pranab Mukherjee who is keen that the underutilised facilities within the premises of the Rashtrapati Bhawan be properly used to promote a culture of sports among the youth.

This was the first time that the tennis court, which was meant for exclusive use by officers of the President's staff, was being opened for others.

According to Paul, work was also on to revamp the swimming pool to enable more and more persons to take to outdoor activities and improve their health and fitness level.

Paul later gifted tennis kits to the five selected young players on behalf of the President at a function organised at clay tennis courts in the premises of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
