India is the largest functional democracy in the world with its inherent strength which can manifest itself whenever the situation demands, President Pranab Mukherjee said today.
Addressing a group of 27 youngsters from eight countries participating in the 25th Know India Programme for Diaspora Youth, the President said, "It is necessary for us to know about our roots and the place from where we originated."
He appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to organise the event, a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
"India is the largest functional democracy of the world with its own inherent strength which can manifest itself whenever the situation demands," he said.
The Know India Programme for Diaspora Youth is organised by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs for youth of Indian origin from different countries to make them familiar with the phenomenal transformation taking place in the country and its transition from a destination for culture, heritage and art to an emerging powerhouse of the world, it said.
