President prorogues Winter session of Lok Sabha

The Winter Session of the Lok Sabha was prorogued today.

An official statement said President Pranab Mukherjee prorogued it on the recommendation of Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.

"Lok Sabha which commenced its Sixth Session on the November 26, 2015 has been prorogued by the President on the January 6, 2016," it said.

The stormy Winter session of Parliament had ended on December 23, leaving the crucial economic reform bill Goods and Services Tax (GST) pending amid persistent protests by Congress over a host of issues.
