BJP MP in Rajya Sabha, Tarun Vijay today made offerings on behalf of President Pranab Mukherjee to Nanda Devi Raj Jaat yatra, as the pilgrimage entered the second day.

The BJP MP offered "Puja Samagri" sent by the President to the Goddess at Kurun village of Chamoli district.

Undertaken every 12 years through the picturesque hills of Uttarakhand by devotees from across the country and abroad, the yatra began in the form of a procession led by a four-horned sheep yesterday from Nauti village and will cover a distance of 280 KMs in 19 days.

The pilgrimage will go up to Roopkund and Homekund in the Himalayas with a four-horned sheep.

After the 'havan/yagna' or ritual is over, the sheep will be released into the wild with ornaments, food and clothings.

According to a legend, the procession accompanies Nanda Devi, the consort of Lord Shiva as she leaves her village for Nanda Devi 'Parbat' to be united with the lord.
