President to address special session of Uttarakhand Assembly

President Pranab Mukherjee will address a special session of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly tomorrow as part of his two day visit to the state.

The president is scheduled to reach the city tomorrow.

Uttrakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal convened an all-party meeting over the President's address, in which ruling Congress as well as opposition BJP promised to extend full cooperation.

The Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly has decided that other than the President's 20-minute speech, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat and Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, Leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt would also address the House, they said.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Indira Hradyesh who has been designated to give the welcome address, said presently it has been decided that the session would be for one day only, however it may be extended if the need arises.
 

Terming the President's address to the Assembly as a historic moment, Chief Minister Harish Rawat while taking to reporters in Bijapur said he, along with all MLAs, is waiting eagerly for it.

The Chief Minister said even though he has heard the President's address many time before it would be his first such opportunity as a member of the House.

He also hoped that both the ruling and opposition parties use this opportunity for the betterment of the state.
