President to give away 'Nari Shakti' awards on Women's Day

President Ram Nath Kovind will honour individuals and organisations working for women empowerment and present them with 'Nari Shakti Puraskar' on the occasion of International Women's Day tomorrow.

Recipients who will be felicitated come from diverse fields, including sports, arts, social work, science, agriculture, education, security, handicrafts and defence.

This year, 30 individual awardees and nine institutional awardees have been selected, according to a press statement.

Winners include the all-woman crew of Indian Navy's sailing vessel Tarini which circumnavigated the globe, Justice Gita Mittal for the vulnerable witness project for survivors of sexual violence, Thinlas Chorol who founded the Ladakhi Women's Travel Company.
 

A Chhattisgarh government initiative of setting up a bakery unit for survivors of human trafficking will also receive an award from the President.
