The Press Club, Kolkata mourned the death of noted journalist and author Kuldip Nayar, who passed away in New Delhi today at the age of 95.
"With his demise, the country lost a journalist of high repute, seasoned political commentator and author, peace activist and an able editor with high ethical values," said a statement issued by president Snehasis Sur and secretary Kingshuk Pramanik.
Members of the Press Club paid tributes to Nayar and conveyed their sincere condolences to his wife Bharati and two sons.
Nayar, born in Sialkot in Pakistan in 1923, began his career in journalism in the Urdu press and went on to serve as editor of several newspapers, including Indian Express and The Statesman.
The veteran journalist, a proponent of India-Pakistan peace, was arrested during the Emergency.
