The Press Club of India today condemned the action of Shiv Sena activists who stormed the conference hall of the Mumbai Press Club, where a music band from Pakistan was interacting with the media, and vandalised the place.

In a statement, the Press Club of India said it "strongly condemns" the violence unleashed by Shiv Sena activists on the members of a sufi music band from Pakistan who were addressing a press conference at the Mumbai Press Club.

"What has happened is not only an attack on the freedom of expression but also on the freedom of the press. Their action has damaged the fair name of India as a country where democratic freedoms are exercised without fear or intimidation from the state or other agencies," the Press Club statement said.

The Press Club of India demanded strong action against those who were involved in the act.
