An Indian artist has achieved the rare distinction of having her work showcased alongside Chinese artists at one of China's prestigious art galleries here.

Three works by Sasmita Mishra Sahu were put on display at a week-long exhibition inaugurated yesterday at the Xu Yu gallery in Song Zhuang artist village.

The exhibition titled "Performance Language in Serigraphs" focuses on prints (silk and wood) and has been organised by China's Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), the country's official body for the promotion of art.

Sasmita, wife of senior Indian diplomat Arun Sahu is the only foreign entry at the event.

The exhibition contains works of seven other artists who have been associated with training and research in print making at CAFA.

Sasmita earlier studied fundamentals of paintings and drawings with British abstract painter David Lenndrum at Southwark College, London and later at the Prints Department at CAFA here.

She has already exhibited her paintings at Fine Arts Foundation of Beijing International Art Palace, the Nehru Centre in London and Mehrin Gallery in Tehran.

The CAFA faculty said it has been highly appreciative of her exhibits which has inspired the organisation to look at possibilities for establishing institutional linkages with reputed art institutions in India, the organisers said.

It is reportedly looking to establish links with different organisations both in New Delhi and Mumbai.
