Prez condoles former Governor Mohammed Fazal's demise

President Pranab Mukherjee today condoled the death of former Goa and Maharashtra Governor Mohammed Fazal and called him an "able administrator and economist".

In a message to his son Qaisar Fazal, the President said he was saddened to learn about the passing away of his father.

The President said Fazal "was an able administrator and economist who contributed to the nation's growth and welfare, including as Governor of Goa and Maharashtra.

"He ably served as Member of the Planning Commission during 1980-85. The nation will remember him for his valuable services and his pursuit of excellence in public life," he said.
 

"Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey them to the rest of your family members. I pray to the Almighty to give you and other members of your family, the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss," he said.

The former Goa and Maharashtra Governor passed away at his Allahabad residence at the age of 92.
