A group of girl students from the militancy-affected areas of Assam today met President Pranab Mukherjee here as part of a national integration tour.

The President, according to a statement from Rashtrapati Bhawan, told the students that although in a vast country like ours, there may be differences of language, food habits and ways of living, all the people shared a common bond - that of belonging to a great nation called India.

The students were in Delhi as part of a National Integration tour organised by the second battalion of the Dogra regiment under 'Operation Sadbhavana'.

The girl students belong to the militancy-affected remote area of Batasipur in Sonitpur district of Assam.

Mukherjee, the statement said, also lauded Army's effort in organising the tour which would serve to strengthen the bonds of the students with the diverse culture of India.
