Opposition's presidential candidate Meira Kumar today said the July 17 polls which she is contesting was a fight between two ideologies at a time when the country was at crossroads.

She said the fight for the top office is not a Dalit versus Dalit battle, as was being made out.

"The presidential election is a fight between two ideologies," Kumar told reporters here after holding a meeting with Congress MLAs to drum up support in her favour.

She said that the ideology of the Congress was based on values, social justice, transparency and respect for all religions.

"We stand for freedom of expression," the former Lok Sabha Speaker said, adding that clouds have gathered over the freedom of press in the country.

The freedom of expression and press is being muzzled.

"We (the Congress-led UPA government) brought the Right to Information Act to bring in transparency in government functioning," she said and added, there was no public agitation demanding that such a law should be passed.

"The country was at a crossroads where the ideology of crores of people is being weakened," she added.
