Prez to award degrees to Jammu varsity students on Sep 1

President Pranab Mukherjee will give away degrees and medals to meritorious students of Jammu University on its 14th convocation ceremony to be held on September 1 after a gap of seven years.

"The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, has consented to be the chief guest on the event (14th convocation of Jammu University) on September 1," University Vice Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar told reporters here today.

In total, 67 candidates who completed their doctorate degree in seven faculties in 2013 will be awarded PhD degrees and 68 candidates will be awarded university gold medal, cash awards and medals created out of endowment, Ishar said.
 

He said the convocation ceremony will be held after a gap of seven years and will be a special day for the university.

Governor of the state N N Vohra and Chancellor of the university will preside over the convocation ceremony and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, will be the Guest of Honour.

Ishar said the university will organise a Special Convocation on September 16, 2014 in which PhD degrees and gold medals will be awarded to candidates of the 2006 to 2012 sessions.
