President Pranab Mukherjee will visit Sonipat, Haryana on March 21 to inaugurate an international conference being organised there to deliberate on the future of universities in the country.
The three-day conference on "The Future of Universities in India: Comparative Perspectives on Higher Education Reforms for a Knowledge Society" will be held at the O P Jindal Global University (JGU) in Sonipat.
"One of the main focal points of the conference is to discuss and debate the situation relating to Indian universities in the context of the rankings of global universities," a press release issued today by Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

The thematic sessions during the conference will discuss responsibilities of a university; management, public policy and international relations; universities, think tanks and international organisations; quality assessment and international benchmarks; promoting excellence in higher education and leadership and innovation in universities among others.
Vice chancellors, presidents and deans of several leading universities in India and abroad are expected to participate in the conference.
