Vehicular movement was affected in arterial roads leading to piling up of vehicles for several kilometers when President Pranab Mukherjee travelled by road in the city today.

As vehicles were not allowed to enter arterial roads including the GST Road, which were taken by the President and his cavalcade for his city visits, it led to a pile up of vehicles till such time the VVIP crossed the stretch.

Vehicles were not allowed to enter the main roads to reach Kathipara and beyond from the Guindy Industrial Estate and other nearby neighbourhoods.

Similar was the traffic situation in other parts of the city which was used by Mukherjee for his road travel.

Mukherjee travelled to Tambaram Air Force base to award the President's 'Standard' to 125 Helicopter Squadron and 'Colours' to Mechanical Training Institute from the Raj Bhavan in Guindy.

Later, he travelled to Adyar from there to inaugurate the Centenary Celebrations of Women's Indian Association at Theosophical Society.

The city came under a security blanket in view of Mukherjee's visit with a huge possee of policemen lining up both sides of the roads.
