Prices of turmeric, jeera rise as demand picks up

Turmeric and jeera prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely on the back of pick up in demand from stockists and overseas enquiries amid restricted arrivals from growing regions.

Turmeric prices rose by Rs 100 to settle at Rs 8,900-12,700 per quintal.

Jeera common and jeera best quality also increased by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 17,300-17,500 and Rs 19,800-20,300 per quintal.

Traders said apart from buying support from retailers and stockists, rising export demand, also influenced turmeric and jeera prices at the wholesale kirana market here.

Ajwain (per kg) 175-240, black pepper (per kg) 720-860, betel-nut (kg) 230-280, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,340-1,350 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,390-1,600.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 570-750, cardamom (colour robin) 580-590, cardamom bold 600-625, cardamom extra (bold) 700-730 and cloves 550-665.
