A local Christian priest has been arrested on charges of cheating a woman and marrying her without informing her about his earlier marriage, police today said.

A case under various IPC sections including sec 498 (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman) was registered against the priest Justin Benker Raj, police said.

Police are also on the look out for a couple, Paulose and his wife Sarojam, from Kerala, who allegedly abetted the crime of the priest.

The couple were running two schools and were getting funds for giving free education to orphans (children).

Police said the priest was arrested yesterday following a complaint by Maria Rekha, his second wife. She alleged that he hid the fact that he was married to another woman at Kanyakumari and had two children from their relationship.

She alleged that the couple were helping him to get married for a third time also.

He has been remanded in judicial custody.
