A 37-year-old primary school teacher's work in mobile App development received a lot of praise after Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned him in his London speech yesterday for his efforts in education sector.
Imran Khan has introduced 52 educational apps in a period of three years and dedicated them to students for free, which are claimed to have been downloaded around 30 lakh times.
The Alwar-based government teacher developed interest in web designing and started creating apps with the help of books and other guidances as he had not taken any formal education in Computer Science.
"I am very much glad that the Prime Minister mentioned my work in his speech. I never met PM but I once gave presentation before HRD Minister Smriti Irani in a national seminar and she appreciated my work," Khan told PTI.
He said that the apps were developed on subjects like Science, Social Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge, used mostly by school students and candidates appearing for competitive exams.
"Since I am a teacher, my focus was on educational sector. Therefore I developed apps which can help students learn subjects in easy method," Khan, the son of a farmer, said.
Imran's app journey began in 2012 when the then Alwar district collector Ashutosh AT Pednekar suggested him to develop apps. At that time, he was designing websites only.
"I did not know about apps when I was told by the collector, but I started working on it and developed my first android app 'NCERT learn science' in a period of 2-3 months," he said.
"My apps are helping large number of students today and that is a great satisfaction for me. Now, I am working on making another app on English Grammar," Imran said.
After Modi praised Imran's work in his speech yesterday, he got numerous calls, including from Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP State President Ashok Parnami and others.
BSNL also felicitated him and gifted him a lifetime free broadband connection.
"The Telecom minister spoke to him on mobile and motivated him. The minister also invited him to Delhi. We, on the behalf of the minister, felicitated him today at his home and gifted free broadband connection for lifetime," GM BSNL Alwar, Arun Kumar, said.
BSNL CMD Anupam Srivastava, District Collector Muktanand Agrawal also congratulated him.
