After some question papers went missing, the West Bengal government has deferred the primary Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) examination for recruitment of teachers to October 4.

West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today announced that the TET exam would not be held on August 30, but would be conducted on October 4.

"Exams will be held properly. I do not know where they (question papers) are, but I have been forced to postpone the exams," Chatterjee said.

The decision was taken after two bags of question papers went missing from a Hooghly bound bus.

The minister also asked his officials to take steps against alleged lapses by the postal department.

More than 23 lakh aspirant teachers have enrolled their names for the examination.
