Prime accused in ATM fraud case arrested

The prime accused in the ATM fraud case, who had been absconding ever since the case was busted in March this year, was arrested at Chennai today, police said.

Chandruji was nabbed at Chennai airport after police received a tip off, Senior Superintendent of Police Rahul Alwal told reporters here.

The SSP said Chandruji had been moving around in several cities in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and also in Delhi ever since the case was busted.

He said Chandruji was acting as a middleman and three others, who were among a total of 15 arrested, cloned the ATM cardsusing the CVV data of credit and debit cards.

 

A total of 140 people, mostly from the U.S.A, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Sweden and Italy, were conned by the gang, he said

The amount siphoned off from the accounts of the victims, running to several crores of Rupees,was invested in movable and immovable properties including luxury cars, the SSP said.

Chandruji would be produced before the court here and remanded to custody tomorrow, Alwal said.

Chandruji, an AIADMK functionary, was expelled from the party after his involvementin the fraud surfaced.
