Singer Prince's former wife Manuela Testolini has revealed she will be opening a school in his memory.

Testolini said she had not long reached out to the 'Purple Rain' singer, who was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota on Thursday, to tell him she wanted to build the school in his honour, reported Entertainment Tonight.

"I just reached out to [Prince] a few days ago to let him know that I was building a school in his honour. My heart aches that the school will now be built in his memory," she said.

The 39-year-old businesswoman, who was married to the "U Got The Look" hitmaker from 2001 to 2006, also opened up about the "magical journey" she shared with the late singer during their five-year marriage.

"Prince and I had a magical journey together and I loved him immensely. I knew him as a husband, friend and fierce philanthropist. Philanthropy brought us together and it was Prince that encouraged me to start my own charity over 10 years ago.
