Principal wounded in US school shooting

A student opened fire in a high school in the mid-western US state of South Dakota today, wounding the principal, authorities and press reports said.

Police spokesman Todd Baldwin told AFP that officers rushed to Harrisburg High School after reports of shots being fired.

He said one person was injured and the students and staff at the school had been evacuated.

Local press reports said the shooter was a student who was taken into custody and the person injured was the school principal who suffered a minor flesh wound.
