Prisoner dies of suspected food poisoning in Goa jail

One prisoner today died while several others have taken ill due to suspected food poisoning at the Aguada Central jail here.

According to initial reports, 45 out of 120 prisoners have been admitted to Goa medical college and hospital near here after they complained of uneasiness following breakfast.

Inspector General of Prison Mihir Vardhan confirmed the death of one prisoner at Primary health centre at Candolim, near Aguada around 11.30 am.

He, however, refused to elaborate on the cause of death and said the deceased inmate's reports are awaited.

Superintendent of Aguada Jail Damodar Shankhe has rushed to the spot while experts from State Food and Drugs administration department have reached the prison to take food samples.
