An undertrial prisoner today escaped after throwing chilli powder in the eyes of a policeman escorting him at a court in East Champaran district.

Police said the prisoner Neyaz Khan was being taken to the lock up of the district court after being produced before a judge in connection with the trial of a murder case.

However, Khan threw chilli powder, which he was carrying in his pocket, in the eyes of constable Chandrashekhar Paswan who was escorting him.

A native of Medni Tola under Dhaka police station of East Champaran district, the prisoner was facing trial in a murder case lodged against him three years ago.

An FIR has been lodged on the statement of the court lock up in-charge Antesh Kumar Singh in connection with Khan's escape, police said.

A man, identified as Pintu, who runs a betel shop in the court premises, has been arrested as he allegedly had supplied a polythene packet presumably containing the chilli powder to Khan while he was being brought to the court.
