The prisoner, Siddhartha Mondal, at the Alipore Correctional Home claiming that he was falsely accused has written to Governor M K Narayanan and the judge of the Alipore fast track court appealing that he be either released immediately or be given a death sentence, jail superintendent C R Gorai told PTI here.

Gorai said, "he has written in his letter that he is no longer able to bear the agony of jail life, while his family and little children are starving".

Stating that he forwarded the letter to the authorities, Gorai said, "it is my responsibility to do so".

Mondal was arrested in 2010 under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
