Prisoners allowed more phone usage in TN

Tamil Nadu government today announced an increase in the frequency and duration of usage of telephone facility by prisoners in the state.

"The telephone facility for prison inmates will be increased from three times a month to five times a month," Minister for Courts and Prisons S P Velumani said in the state assembly.

Making announcements for the department for the year 2015-16, he said the prisoners can now talk for 45 minutes a month as against the earlier 30 minutes.

He proposed to set up 1000 litre capacity Reverse Osmosis (RO) water plants at nine central prisons and three women's jails in the state at a cost of Rs 51.75 lakh.
